‘Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of intelligent effort.’ – John Ruskin
Green Door Press is an independent publisher committed to the dissemination of original scholarship, neglected literature and new writing that cannot find a voice elsewhere. This is not a vanity press, and we seek no fees from authors or editors, nor any commitment to purchase books. We are a small, artisan publisher that has naturally evolved from the work we already do at Green Door as writers, artists, editors and book designers. This is coupled with our faith in the on-going e-publishing revolution, and supported, as ever, by our commitment to literary quality and innovative design.
The first Green Door Press publication is Shark Alley: The Memoirs of a Penny-a-Liner, an original novel conceived in the form of the ‘triple-decker’ Victorian romance, so a three-book epic simultaneously released as an online serial in fifty illustrated parts. This is a collaborative family project, and thus very dear to our hearts, with text by Stephen and original cover art and illustration by Gracie. Such was our desire to release the book in this form that we eschewed some traditional publishing opportunities in order to go it alone, applying the same skills we have been using for many years as book designers. We intend to build on the success of Shark Alley by releasing further texts in support of the project, such as anthologies of Georgian and Victorian gothic fiction, critical essays, regional literature, and neglected or forgotten memoirs and novels. It is also our intention to publish a collection of short stories by new writers that we have worked with via Green Door, so watch this space for details. For further information, please contact us.
